Monthly social night of Scandinavian folk dancing with instruction for beginners, mixing group dances with couples dances like the waltz, polka, schottische and hambo.
4th Monday Scandinavian Dance is back at Salt Lake Scandinavian Music & Dance on Monday, October 26, as part of its regular monthly series. The group meets on the fourth Monday of every month, so if you miss this one, there's usually another one coming up a few weeks later. They also gather on the second Saturday, and on occasion they run classes on the second and third Mondays, so there are a few different ways to get involved depending on your schedule.
The night is built around easy Scandinavian folk dances, and they keep things welcoming for anyone who's never done this before. There's instruction on hand for beginners, and one or two dances are taught in detail each night, so you don't need to arrive knowing the steps. The dancing mixes group dances with couples dances, including the waltz, polka, schottische, and hambo.
They describe the dancing as fun, social, and a moderately strenuous, non-impact activity suitable for all ages. Since it's non-impact, it's a good option if you're looking for something that gets you moving without being hard on your joints. The social side is a big part of it, tooβyou'll be dancing with a variety of people throughout the evening rather than just sticking with one partner.
