Carolina Ballet presents its production of The Nutcracker, a classic holiday ballet with richly detailed costumes and sets, performed to Tchaikovsky's music.
Carolina Ballet brings The Nutcracker back to the Memorial Auditorium at the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Raleigh this December, with performances running from December 10 through December 24. It's the company's holiday production, and the dates stretch across two full weeks, so you've got plenty of options to fit it in around your own plans.
The story follows Clara's imagination as it comes to life, taking her from the battle with the Rat King to the Land of the Sweets. It's played with charm, warmth, and a sense of wonder, and the production is staged with richly detailed costumes and sets. The choreography is by Zalman Raffael, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's score is performed live, which is always a different experience than a recording.
Before the show, you can head to 'The Lounge' at the Martin Marietta Center, where guests get a complimentary beverage. It's a good spot to settle in before the curtain goes up.
