The morning starts with an introduction to some of the city's landmarks—the well-known ones and the hidden spots that usually fly under the radar—along with the stories and anecdotes that go with them. From there, you'll spend the rest of the session making your own zine, a small, self-published booklet, using those local histories as a starting point. The whole thing is about exploring, imagining and celebrating Portsmouth through making something by hand.
It's a low-pressure way to spend a Saturday morning: no previous experience is needed, just a bit of curiosity and a willingness to share stories. All the materials you'll need are provided, so you just have to turn up. The session runs from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, and it's open to anyone aged 16 and over.
There's a wider context to this one, too. The Heritage Art Club is supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and serves as a lead-up to Your museum. Your stories. Your city., an exhibition that opens in October 2026. While this particular workshop is at Central Library, the club meets in different spots across the city throughout its monthly programme. This session is free to attend.
