Photography workshop at Hilsea Lido as part of the Portsmouth100 heritage art club, led by local artist Paul Gonella.
Paul Gonella is leading a photography workshop at Hilsea Lido on Saturday 22 August, from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. It's part of the Portsmouth100 Wonders: Heritage Art Club, a series of monthly meet-ups that bring together local history and different kinds of making. Each session follows the same pattern: an introduction with facts, stories and anecdotes about one of the city's landmarks, followed by a practical creative activity. For this one, the activity is photography.

Gonella is a local artist, and the workshop is open to anyone over 16. You don't need any previous experience to join in—just curiosity and a willingness to share stories. The organisers provide all the materials you'll need for the session, so you can just turn up and get stuck in.
The Heritage Art Club is one of the ways the city is marking Portsmouth100, the celebrations around Portsmouth's centenary. The whole project is supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, and the club is described as a space to explore, imagine and celebrate the city in an inspiring way. These sessions are leading up to the exhibition Your museum. Your stories. Your city., which opens in October 2026.
It's a free event, and since it's part of a monthly series, it's one of several opportunities to get involved with the centenary celebrations over the course of the year. The workshop runs from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm at Hilsea Lido on 22 August, and as it's free, you can book your place through the official Portsmouth Museums site.
