Indie folk and americana concert featuring Casey Neill and the Norway Rats, with opening acts Going Victor and Casey.
Casey Neill and the Norway Rats play Mississippi Studios on Thursday, October 15, with Going Victor and Casey opening. It's a 21+ show, and the music starts at 7 PM.
If you're not familiar with the band, they're a Pacific Northwest outfit that blends sweeping acoustic reveries with high-energy post-punk rave-ups. Neill fronts the group, and the lineup around him is a local roster: Jenny Conlee of The Decemberists on keyboards and accordion, Chet Lyster of Eels on guitars, Jesse Emerson on bass, and Joe Mengis on drums. It's a full band, so the set can swing from the quiet, folk-leaning side of things to something a bit more driven.
Neill's career goes back to 1997, when he signed with Appleseed Records. Since then, he's also been a frequent side player in the power-pop band The Minus 5, playing alongside Scott McCaughey and R.E.M.'s Peter Buck. The Norway Rats have released three albums—Brooklyn Bridge (2007), Goodbye to the Rank and File (2010), and All You Pretty Vandals (2014)—and played NPR's Mountain Stage and the 2017 Newport Folk Festival. Their record Subterrene followed in early 2018.
