Concert by Texas folk-pop songwriter and former Big Thief member Buck Meek, with support from Kisser.
Buck Meek is back at Mississippi Studios on Friday, December 4, with support from Kisser. It's a return to Portland for the Texas folk-pop songwriter and guitarist, who most of you know as a member of Big Thief.
Meek grew up in Wimberley, where he spent his teenage years as a protégé of an old guard of mystic Texas songwriters. He later moved to New York and met Adrianne Lenker; the two lived in a van singing across the country before they formed Big Thief. This show draws from his solo work, and he's bringing songs from his fourth record, released by 4AD.
That album combines the live, kinetic energy of his band with an oblique electronic world, and its making drew in collaborators like Alex Somers on synthesizer, toy microphone, and piano, and Mary Lattimore on harp. The set will lean on those songs, and Kisser opens the night.
