The whole thing starts with a question most of us have wondered about: what did dinosaurs actually look like? Were they really green like they are in the movies, or something else entirely? The show follows the work of Dr Jakob Vinther, a paleontologist who discovered what colour dinosaurs actually were, and brings that discovery to the stage. He's joined by five musicians who provide the melodies, so the story is told through a mix of narration and live music. Beyond the dinosaurs, the show celebrates identity in all its forms, including disability and cultural identity.
If you've got older kids, there's a separate workshop to go with it. The Colour of Dinosaurs Workshop runs on Wednesday 29 October at The Lab, from 10:30 to 16:30, for children aged eight to eleven. It's a full day of storytelling, puppetry and music, and finishes with a viewing session and a workshop led by the company itself. So you can do the show on its own, or add the workshop into the mix if you're around that Wednesday.
For the main show, there are accessible performances available, including captioned, BSL and audio-described versions. Tickets are on sale through the Theatre Royal Plymouth box office on 01752 267222 or at theatreroyal.com.
