Allo 'Allo

The Regiment of Rascals Comedy Theatre Company are bringing 'Allo 'Allo to the Barbican Theatre this October, with performances running from 1 October to 3 October. It's a stage adaptation of the British sitcom that ran for seven seasons, so if you've seen the show, you'll know exactly where this is headed.

The story is set in occupied France and follows Rene, a hapless café owner, and his tone-deaf wife Edith. The plot revolves around their struggle to keep the café running and stay alive while hiding a priceless portrait stolen by the Nazis in a cellar sausage. It's a lot to juggle, and the chaos only piles up from there: two British airmen are also hiding in the cellar, and communications with London are routed through a wireless disguised as a cockatoo. Along the way, they cross paths with Major-General von Klinkerhoffen and the Gestapo officer Herr Flick, both of whom Rene has to manage without blowing his cover.

If you're not familiar with the original, the whole thing is built on that sort of farcical, mistaken-identity comedy where everyone is pretending to be something they're not, and the misunderstandings just keep stacking up. It's the kind of show that works best when you're in the room with it, and having it on stage in Plymouth should be a good night out if you fancy a bit of old-school farce. The Regiment of Rascals are the ones putting it on, and they've got it running over three days at the Barbican, so there are a few different dates to choose from.
