An evening of performance and conversation exploring art as a form of non-verbal communication, featuring the work A Spilling and a panel discussion.
The Box hosts Summer of Expression on Saturday 19 September, an evening of performance and conversation around art as a form of non-verbal communication. It's part of the gallery's wider Summer of Expression programme, which looks at art as a way to express what words can't quite reach.
The night opens with A Spilling, a new commission from choreographer Theo Clinkard. It was conceived in response to Gillian Ayres and her visceral relationship with paint, and it's realised and performed by Ronan Cardoza on dance and Emma Holbrook on live drumming, with the two creating a dialogue between movement and sound. The performance runs twice, first from 6.00 to 6.30pm and then again at 6.30pm, so you can catch it once or twice over.
After that, the focus shifts to the conversation. A panel discussion starts at 7.30pm, bringing together Theo Clinkard, Dr Eve Ess, a Senior Lecturer at Arts University Plymouth, and artist and filmmaker Jordan Baseman. They'll be talking about art as a means of expression and connection, picking up on the themes the evening has been building towards. The whole thing wraps up by 8.30pm.

The Kitchen & Bar are open from 5.45pm, and the evening takes place across the South gallery and the Kitchen & Bar. Tickets are £10 standard, £8 for concessions and members, and £5 for students.
