Halloween party night with costume dancing, opening on the mic with Pittsburgh MC WritersBlock412 and resident DJ Arie Cole.
Slappers N Bangers returns to the Thunderbird Café & Music Hall on Friday, October 30, for a Halloween edition that takes the party indoors with costumes and dancing that doesn't stop. The night opens on the mic with WritersBlock412, a staple of Pittsburgh's arts community, who'll be playing local favorites and bangers from the past and present.
From there, the decks are handed over to Arie Cole and DJ QRX. Cole is the event's co-founder, Creative Director, and resident DJ, and he's shared stages with Young Jeezy during Pittsburgh's NFL Draft and opened for Wale and Soulja Boy. DJ QRX is a Pittsburgh selector who's been playing since 2012, worked with 1Hood Media, released Q Mixes, and taken part in Crash the Decks DJ/drummer battles. Between them, they'll be keeping the floor moving well into the early hours.
The venue itself is a 380-capacity room in Lawrenceville with a long history. It dates back to 1890 when it was built as a bakery, then became a tavern in 1933 as Michalski's Cafe—the second bar in Pittsburgh to receive a liquor license after Prohibition. The Pergal family bought it in 2000 and reopened it as the Thunderbird Cafe, with a further renovation in 2019. It's a good spot for a night that starts with a mic and ends with a dance floor.
