Spirit's 11th annual 21+ Halloween party themed around 'The Shining', with a costume contest, ax-throwing and boozy snow-cone performance art.
Tirips Redrum returns to Spirit on Saturday, October 31, from 8 PM to 2 AM, marking the 11th year of the venue's annual Halloween party. It's a full-building takeover, with the music and the party spilling across both floors of the space.
This year's edition is built around Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. Local artist and designer Thommy Conroy is transforming Spirit's cavernous interior into the opulent Overlook Hotel, so the whole place should feel like a set piece rather than just a dance floor. Beyond the music, the night includes ax-throwing and boozy snow-cone performance art, and the costume contest is the main event. There are three categories—Best Costume, Runner-Up, and Best Group Costume—with prizes that go beyond a trophy: $500 in cash, Spirit's Golden Ticket for a year of free admission, and a pizza party by Bacardi.
If you're planning to enter the contest, it's worth knowing the stakes. The Golden Ticket is a big one for anyone who spends a lot of time at Spirit, and the cash prize is a nice bonus for a night that's as much about the costumes as the music. The whole thing is 21+.
