Indoor all-electric kart racing on a multi-story track, pro-level racing simulators and hands-on STEM exhibits about motion, force and engineering.
Science of Speed is the newest indoor karting and simulator experience at the Kamin Science Center in Pittsburgh, and it's built around the idea of pairing racing with the physics, engineering and technology behind the world's fastest machines. It's four experiences in one: high-speed, all-electric indoor kart racing on a multi-story, 750-foot track with hairpin turns and elevation changesābilled as the first of its kind in the cityāalongside pro-level racing simulators that recreate real tracks and real physics. There are also interactive STEM exhibits exploring motion, force and engineering through hands-on activities, and a racing-themed Pit Stop lounge for food and drinks. The karts are powered by Lenovo, with PPG listed as a racing partner.
Daytime racing runs daily from 10 AM to 5 PM, and evening racing is Thursday through Saturday from 5 PM to 11 PM; the museum is closed on Tuesdays. A daytime kart race is $14 per person, and evening racing is $24 per person. The Wave Italy F1 simulator is $8 or $15, the SimGear simulator is $4, and a headsockāwhich you're required to wear to raceāis $3. The venue is cashless, so keep that in mind before you head in.
