Halloween racing series at the Kamin Science Center with a Halloween-themed track, spooky racing science activities and a free simulator race for those in costume.
Spooky Speed runs from Thursday, Oct. 29 through Saturday, Oct. 31 at the Kamin Science Center, One Allegheny Avenue on the North Side. It's a Halloween racing series built around the center's Science of Speed, Powered by Lenovo exhibit, which the museum bills as Pittsburgh's most visited. For these three days, the track is decked out in Halloween colors, the playlist features Monster Mash and Thriller, and spooky racing science activities give the whole visit a seasonal spin.
The program splits the day in two. The daytime session is open to all ages and included with general admission, so it's an easy one to bring the kids along for. After dark, the Fast & Frightful hours take over for ages 18 and over, with after-hours adventures, supernatural science, creepy cinema, laser lights, and Halloween scavenger hunts. If you turn up in costume, you get a free SimGear simulator race, though face coverings, full-face masks, and costume weapons aren't permitted.
