Kids' Day Out at the Zoo

Kids' Day Out at the Zoo is coming to the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium on Tuesday, November 3, and it's built for the younger crowd. The day is aimed at children in grades K through 5, so it's a good fit if you've got elementary-age kids at home. The whole thing runs from 9 AM to 4 PM, which is a full day, so you'll want to plan for a long one.

The day is centered around the Education Complex, and the program is built on three things: animal encounters, games, and crafts. The animal encounters are the main draw—getting the kids close to the animals rather than just watching them from a distance. The games and crafts fill in the gaps, so there's something to do between the animal moments. It's a mix of active and creative, which usually helps keep kids from getting restless when you're out all day.

Because it's a full day, you'll want to think about how to pace it. It starts at 9 AM and doesn't wrap up until 4 PM, so it's a good idea to pack plenty of snacks and water to keep everyone going. The Education Complex is where the activities are based, so you'll be spending most of your time in that part of the zoo. If you're planning to make a full day of it, you might want to check out the rest of the zoo before or after the program.

It's a Tuesday, so you'll need to clear your schedule for a weekday. The day runs from 9 AM to 4 PM at the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium on November 3.
