Sogetsu ikebana workshop on the composition of mass and line, drawing from Sogetsu Textbook #3–13, limited to 30 participants.
Ken Katayama and Koso Katayama are leading a Sogetsu ikebana workshop at the Carnegie Museum of Art on Sunday, November 8, from 10 AM to 1 PM. The session is held in the Carnegie Music Hall Foyer and is part of the museum's Talks and Lectures series.
The workshop focuses on the composition of mass and line—straight or curved—drawing from Sogetsu Textbook #3–13. It's a hands-on session that brings to life the Carnegie Prize-winning presentation by Sofu Teshigahara (1900–1979), the artist and founder of the Sogetsu school in 1927, whose work was featured in If the word we: 59th Carnegie International.
Ken Katayama joined Sogetsu in 1962 and founded his own Fukuoka-based school in 1971. He served as World Convention Chairperson for the Ikebana International 11th World Convention in 2017 and received a Fukuoka City Cultural Award in 2021. Koso Katayama began her Sogetsu practice in 1978, won the Akane Teshigahara Award in 2017, and is the lead artist of Hana Art Katayama, a Sogetsu artist collective. Together they'll be guiding the group through the principles of mass and line.
