Hands-on workshop where Squonk's bassist T-Funk introduces children to the science of drumming and rhythm through percussion, sonic experiments and rhythm games.
Squonk brings Way of the Drum to LAMP on Wednesday, October 28, for a hands-on session with kids. The hour-long workshop is led by T-Funk, the bassist for Squonk, who spends the session talking through the science of drumming and rhythm. It's not just a demonstration—the kids get to play a variety of percussion instruments themselves, and they'll learn to count rhythms through sonic science experiments and rhythm games. Along the way, T-Funk walks them through the story of the drum and its importance across different cultures.
There's a clear connection here to Squonk's new show, Joy Machine, which also encourages people to make art. The workshop is part of the Youth Services programming at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's Library of Accessible Media for Pennsylvanians, and reservations are optional.
