A workshop exploring Brazilian folk music traditions and a guided visit to the Brazil exhibit at the Musical Instrument Museum.
World Choir Workshop: Brazil comes to the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix on Thursday, November 19. It's a workshop focused on Brazilian folk music traditions, and it's built around two parts: the singing and the museum itself.
The first half is the workshop, where the group explores the folk music of Brazil. That means diving into the rhythms and melodies that come from the country's folk traditions rather than its pop charts. If you've ever wanted to get a better handle on how that music actually works from the inside, this is where you'll find it.
The second part is a guided visit to the Brazil exhibit at the museum. Since the MIM is built around instruments from all over the world, the Brazil gallery holds the actual objects—the drums, the strings, the percussion—that make those sounds. Walking through the exhibit after working with the music gives you a chance to see the instruments that the traditions are built on.

Between the two, you get the music and the tools that create it in one go. It's a good way to spend a Thursday evening if you're into choral singing or just want to learn more about Brazilian folk music. The whole thing takes place at the Musical Instrument Museum on November 19.
