Sing-along puppet show about a hen who makes bread, recommended for ages 2 and up.
The Little Red Hen opens at the Great Arizona Puppet Theater on Thursday, November 5, and runs through November 29. It's a sing-along puppet show based on the classic story of a hen who does all the hard work to bake a delicious loaf of bread, and it's recommended for ages 2 and up, so it's a good fit for families with little ones.
The show is put on by the Great Arizona Puppet Theater, a non-profit professional puppet theater that's been around since 1983. It started as a touring company and now operates out of a historic church in downtown Phoenix. They perform year-round and welcome around 85,000 people a year, most of them children. Over the years, the New Times has named them "Best Entertainment for Kids" and "Best Children's Theater," and they picked up the UNIMA-USA Citation for Excellence in Puppetry—the highest honor in the international puppetry community—for their original version of Cinderella.
They keep a repertoire of more than 60 shows, ranging from original environmental stories to fairy tales, and most come with a free study guide for students and parents. The Little Red Hen is one of those sing-along productions, and it's geared toward the younger crowd, with the age 2+ recommendation making it easy to bring along toddlers.
