Live show by bossa nova singer-songwriter Liana Flores with special guest Allie Sandt at Valley Bar in Downtown Phoenix.
Liana Flores plays Valley Bar on Friday, November 6, with special guest Allie Sandt. The show is presented by Psyko Steve, and it comes at a time when Flores has a fair amount of new material to draw from.
Flores is a British-Brazilian singer-songwriter working within a bossa nova revival, pairing the 1960s sound of pioneers like João Gilberto with pop songwriting. She grew up in East Anglia with a Brazilian mother and a British father, picked up a guitar in her late teens, and started writing songs that set bossa guitar against introspective lyrics. Her early EPs, The Water's Fine! (2018) and Recently (2019), led to a deal with the jazz label Verve Records, and her debut album Flower of the Soul came out in 2024. That record featured collaborations with Matt Maltese and Tim Bernardes, and the singles "Silvershoes" and "So It Goes." It was recorded in LA with Paul Butler, who has worked with The Bees, Michael Kiwanuka, and The Teskey Brothers. She's following it with a new EP, And so it goes..., so there should be plenty of recent songs in the set alongside the older ones. Her track "rises the moon" has earned RIAA Platinum.
Opening the night is Allie Sandt, a New Jersey-based indie artist whose debut album In Pursuit of a Good Time blends folk, rock, and jazz. Between the two, the bill leans toward the quieter, melodic side of things.
