Two half-day stand-up comedy workshop for young people aged 12-17 to learn about comedy routines, write their own sets and practise improvisation.
YouthLab is running a stand-up comedy workshop for 12 to 17-year-olds at The North Wall Arts Centre on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 October, from 1pm to 4pm each day. It's part of their YouthLab programme, which they describe as a welcoming and inclusive space for young people to flourish and work alongside industry professionals.
Over the two afternoons, the group will look at the different types of stand-up routines and how to write them, then move on to crafting opening lines and snippets for their own comedy sets. There's also a focus on improvisation, with the aim of leaving the room in stitches. It's a practical course, so you'll be doing as much as you're listening.
The workshop runs as a pair: anyone signing up books for both half-days, and full bursary places are available for those who need them. The facilitators are DBS checked, and there's always a first aider and a fire marshal on site.
