Multi-sensory, inclusive dance and music show for ages 3+ co-created with children, blending contemporary dance with live music, immersive sound and scents.
Sonrisa Arts bring Dance in the Dark to the Drama Studio at The North Wall Arts Centre on Wednesday 28 October, with two showings that afternoon: one at 1pm and another at 3pm. It's a multi-sensory, inclusive dance and music show for ages 3 and up, and it was co-created with children, which gives it a different energy from your usual family outing.
The show blends contemporary dance with live music, immersive sound and scents, and plenty of interaction for families to get stuck into. The whole thing is built around a slumber party in a giant sleepover den, and audiences are invited to turn up in their favourite PJs for a playful night-time adventure. Along the way, you'll meet some friendly nocturnal creatures — slugs, moths and fireflies — so it's as much about the creatures of the night as it is about the dancing.
If you're bringing a child who needs a bit more space or a quieter environment, the 3pm showing is a relaxed performance. Sound levels are kept lower, people can come and go as they wish, and there's a chill-out area with colouring-in sheets and sensory toys. Before that one starts, you can also pre-book a 10-minute Touch Tour and a Meet the Cast introduction, so you can get a feel for the space and the people involved before the show kicks off.
