Two-day half-term workshop for children aged 8-11 to make shadow puppets and bring their stories to life with movement, light and sound.
YouthLab is running a shadow puppet theatre workshop for 8 to 11-year-olds at The North Wall Arts Centre on 26 and 27 October, during the October half-term. It's a two-day course, with sessions running from 9am to 12pm each morning, held in the Drama Studio at the centre on South Parade.
The workshop is built around storytelling through shadow puppetry. Over the two mornings, every child makes their own shadow box and their own puppets, and then brings their story to life using movement, light, sound and character voices. It's a hands-on way of seeing how a story moves from an idea to something you can actually perform.
YouthLab is a welcoming and inclusive space for young people to flourish and work alongside industry professionals. The sessions are run by experienced workshop facilitators, and they keep things safe with DBS-checked staff, a first aider and a fire marshal on site. Full bursary places are available, so if the cost is a barrier, it's worth asking about that before you decide.
