Screening of 'Shana', the debut feature by Lisa Pinell, at the UK Jewish Film Festival 2026.
Shana screens at PictureHouse on Thursday 12 November, as part of the UK Jewish Film Festival 2026. It's the debut feature from filmmaker Lisa Pinell, and it's had a proper run already: it premiered in the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes, picked up a Best Film nomination, and was sponsored by Lord and Lady Collins of Mapesbury.
The story follows Shana, a Jewish woman whose life is in a bit of a state. Her drug-dealer boyfriend is in prison, she's clashing with her friends, and things with her family are strained. When her Moroccan Jewish grandmother dies and leaves her a precious ring, she tries to use it as a starting point for a fresh start. The whole thing is framed around the ten plagues of Passover, so there's a bit of a structural thread running through it rather than just a straight line.
It's 84 minutes long, so it's a tight one that doesn't overstay its welcome. If you're into debut features, it's a good place to see a new director find her feet. The Moroccan Jewish connection adds a specific layer to the family side of things, too, so it's not just a generic family drama.

It's screening as part of the UK Jewish Film Festival, and the showtimes are still to be confirmed, so you'll want to keep an eye on the PictureHouse listings for when the exact slot is announced.
