RBO Live screening of Kenneth MacMillan's ballet Manon, set in 18th-century Paris, at the historic Phoenix Picturehouse in Oxford.
The Royal Ballet bring Manon to Phoenix Picturehouse on Tuesday 27 October, a live screening of Kenneth MacMillan's 1974 ballet. It's one of the company's signature works, and the live broadcast starts at 7.15pm.
Manon is MacMillan's adaptation of Abbé Prévost's novel, set in the seedy underbelly of 18th-century Paris. It follows Manon, who falls in love with the student Des Grieux while being tempted by the riches of Parisian society. MacMillan's choreography doesn't shy away from the moral degradation of that world, and the whole thing is carried by Jules Massenet's score and Nicholas Georgiadis's designs.
If you can't make the live screening, the run continues with showtimes from Wednesday 28 October right through to Sunday 27 December, so there's plenty of room to catch it later in the autumn or even over the Christmas break. It's a good one to keep in mind if you're planning your winter cinema trips.
