Screening of Aaron Sorkin's legal thriller about the Facebook whistleblower scandal, starring Jeremy Allen White, Mikey Madison and Jeremy Strong.
The Social Reckoning is playing at The Ultimate Picture Palace on Cowley Road, with screenings running from Friday 30 October through to Thursday 5 November. It's Aaron Sorkin's true-story legal thriller and a follow-up to The Social Network, dramatising the 2021 Facebook leak that whistleblower Frances Haugen and Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz brought to light. If you remember the first one, this picks up the thread years later, focusing on the internal documents Haugen took public rather than the company's founding.
Sorkin's back in the writer's chair here, and the cast is a heavy one: Jeremy Allen White, Oscar winner Mikey Madison, and Oscar nominee Jeremy Strong, who returns as Mark Zuckerberg. Empire Magazine's Dan Jolin described Sorkin's witty storytelling as enough to keep audiences engaged with a story that takes aim at Zuckerberg's 'not-so-pretty hate machine'. It's a legal drama at its core, so expect the fast-paced dialogue Sorkin is known for, this time turned towards the fallout of the leak.
The film is showing at The Ultimate Picture Palace, Oxford's oldest independent cinema, which opened in 1911 and has been community-owned since 2022. It's on the Cowley Road in East Oxford, so it's easy to combine with a few drinks or dinner nearby.
