Free monthly book club session at The Old Fire Station to read and vote on a debut novel from around the world.
The International Debut Book Club meets at Old Fire Station on Tuesday 10 November, from 6.00pm to 7.40pm. It's a session dedicated to debut novels from around the world, and the whole thing is free.
Each month, Ellie puts together a carefully curated shortlist of debut novels, and the members vote on which one the group will read together next. The idea is to explore new cultures, perspectives and conversations through literature, so you're not just sticking to the usual suspects. If you've been looking for a way to read more widely without having to do all the digging yourself, this is a good place to start.
The club meets at Old Fire Station, a public multi-form arts centre in the heart of Oxford that presents new work across different art forms and supports local early to mid-career artists. It shares its building with the homelessness charity Crisis, and together they work to end homelessness in the city by offering training and volunteering opportunities to Crisis clients, who create and show work alongside professional artists. It's a venue that does more than just put on shows, so it's a nice spot to spend an evening.
