Ronin Theatre brings to The Old Fire Station Lucy Prebble's darkly comic play about the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko, adapted from Luke Harding's book.
Ronin Theatre are bringing A Very Expensive Poison to The Old Fire Station from Wednesday 28 to Saturday 31 October, with all evening shows starting at 7.30pm and a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. It's a darkly comic drama about truth, justice and Kremlin intrigue, following the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko. The play is adapted by Lucy Prebble from Luke Harding's Guardian/Faber book, and it walks the line between farce and tragedy, with the Litvinenkos telling their own story full of warmth, hope, comedy and tragedy.
It's not a new one: the play was a five-star, sell-out hit at the Old Vic, where it won the Critics' Circle Award for Best New Play and picked up a Laurence Olivier Award nomination. Ronin Theatre is bringing it to Oxford following its own sell-out runs of Quiz, Young Marx and The Watsons, so it's a production they've got a bit of a track record with. The running time is 2 hours 15 minutes, and it's aimed at ages 12 and over, so keep in mind it contains strong language.
