Screening of the new adaptation of Jane Austen's 'Sense and Sensibility' at the historic Phoenix Picturehouse cinema in Oxford.
Sense and Sensibility opens at Phoenix Picturehouse on Sunday 25 October, with screenings running through to Thursday 29 October. It's a new take on Jane Austen's story of love and sisterhood, and the billing describes it as "irresistible, charming, witty and deeply relatable" — a fair summary of the book, at least.
The cast brings together a few names you'll recognise. Daisy Edgar-Jones takes the lead, with Caitriona Balfe, Fiona Shaw, George MacKay and Frank Dillane filling out the rest of the ensemble. If you're a fan of the original, it's a good starting point to see who's playing whom before you head in.
It's playing at Phoenix Picturehouse on Walton Street, a century-old Oxford cinema with two screens and a friendly upstairs bar. It's the kind of place that balances big blockbusters with independent films, and it runs a couple of regulars: 'Phoenix Nights', a series of cult classics handpicked by the team, and 'Picturehouse and UNICEF presents Kids' Club', which brings families together through cinema. It's a proper neighbourhood spot, so it's easy enough to grab a drink upstairs before or after.
