Documentary shot on the rooftops of Tel Aviv that examines the systems behind the killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
Naza opens at Phoenix Picturehouse on 30 October, a film by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor. It's a documentary shot at night on the rooftops of Tel Aviv over the course of three years, and it sets out to reveal the systems behind Israel's calculated mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
Abraham and Szor are two of the four co-directors of the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land, and they've spoken about why they made this one: they felt an obligation to use their position as Israelis to examine these systems from the inside. Much of what the film uncovers was published almost immediately after the October 7th attacks by The Guardian, one of the film's producers, in collaboration with reporting partners +972 Magazine and Local Call. Abraham is a filmmaker and investigative journalist; Szor is a filmmaker and cinematographer.
It's a heavy subject, and the film doesn't shy away from it. The rooftop footage, shot over three years, provides the backdrop for its look at the machinery behind the killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza. If you've followed the reporting from The Guardian, +972, and Local Call on this, you'll recognise the ground it covers.
