Screening of the National Theatre Live film of Molière's dark comedy, with Sandra Oh in the title role, directed by Indhu Rubasingham.
National Theatre Live: The Misanthrope is showing at Phoenix Picturehouse in Oxford on Monday 9 November, part of a run that opens on 2 November and continues until 15 December. It's a filmed version of the National Theatre production, so you're seeing the full stage show on screen rather than a movie made for the cinema.
Sandra Oh takes the title role, playing Alice, a brilliant novelist who has a deep distaste for the carefully constructed lies of modern society. The play follows her as she confronts the price of speaking her truth, and it's a reimagining of Molière's dark comedy, so it keeps the spirit of the original while moving it into a contemporary setting. Oh is joined by Paul Chahidi, Tom Mison, and Abigail Cruttenden in the supporting cast.
Behind the scenes, the production is directed by Indhu Rubasingham and written by Martin Crimp, who also wrote Cyrano de Bergerac. It runs for 106 minutes, and it carries a 15 certificate, so it's aimed at an older audience. The whole thing was filmed live on stage at the National Theatre, and that's what's being screened here in Oxford.

Since it's part of a wider run from 2 November to 15 December, you've got a few weeks to fit it in if the 9th doesn't work for you. The screening is 106 minutes long, and it's a 15 certificate.
