Screening of the documentary 'Life Support' about doctors in Gaza, with an introduction and Q&A led by Professor Nick Maynard.
Life Support, a new film by Daniele Rugo, screens at the Schwarzman Centre on Thursday 12 November, followed by a Q&A with Professor Nick Maynard. It's a two-part evening: the film first, then the discussion, and the whole thing runs for about two hours and five minutes.
The film follows international doctors who breach the blockade in Gaza, documenting the daily struggles of healthcare workers as they navigate bombed-out hospitals, dwindling supplies, starvation and the overwhelming influx of casualties — predominantly women and children — across the two years of the genocide. It's a direct look at the work being done inside the strip, told through the people on the ground.
The Q&A is led by Professor Nick Maynard, who brings a lot of first-hand context to the conversation. He's a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Oxford, and he's worked extensively in Gaza since 2008. He also chairs the Board of Trustees of Medical Aid for Palestinians, so he's been involved with the region from both a clinical and an organisational side for nearly two decades.
