Screening of the 1964 thriller 'Lady in a Cage', starring Olivia de Havilland and James Caan, at Oxford's independent art-house cinema.
The Ultimate Picture Palace is screening Lady in a Cage (1964) on Sunday 18 October at 2.45pm and Monday 19 October at 8.30pm. It's part of their Her-steria Horror Classics section, so if you've got a thing for old-school thrillers, this is one to keep on your radar.
The film stars Olivia de Havilland as Cornelia Hilyard, a wealthy widow whose life turns into a nightmare when a power failure traps her in her mansion's cage-like elevator just as a gang of young thugs break in. James Caan also stars, and the whole thing runs for 91 minutes. It's rated 15, so keep that in mind if you're bringing anyone younger.
For those who haven't spent much time there, the UPP is Oxford's oldest independent cinema. It opened back in 1911 and has been community-owned since 2022, and it's one of BIFA's 15 best cinemas in the UK. It's a single-screen art-deco auditorium on Cowley Road, and they mostly show independent, international and classic films. Lady in a Cage fits right into that mix.
