Salsa night by La Londinense Orchestra, 13 London musicians with Latin American roots, with an optional beginner dance class.
La Londinense Orchestra bring their tribute to salsa to O2 Academy Oxford on Saturday 24 October. It's a big band on stage — 13 London-based musicians with roots across Latin America, including Cuba, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela and Mexico. Between them they bring decades of salsa experience and have shared the stage with internationally renowned artists across the global salsa scene.
The night is a look at how salsa has evolved over the last 60 years. It starts with Cuban Son and moves through to the salsa of the Fania All Stars, Willie Colón and El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, paying homage to figures like Ismael Rivera and Hector Lavoe. If you've never danced before, there's an optional beginner dance class at the start of the evening, so you can get a few steps in before the main set kicks off.
O2 Academy Oxford is on Cowley Road, in an Edwardian building that was originally a Cooperative party hall and went by the names The Venue and the Zodiac before it officially launched in September 2007. It's an over-8s venue, with under-14s needing to be accompanied by an adult over 18, and you'll need ID to buy alcohol if you're under 25.
