JukeBox: Christmas Special

JukeBox returns to O2 Academy Oxford on Friday 4 December for a Christmas Special, their take on the festive club night. They bill it as Oxford's ultimate feel-good club night, and this one pulls music from across the decades, so it's built for dancing, singing and singalong favourites. If you've been before, you know the format: a broad mix of eras rather than one particular sound, and a good deal of the room singing along.

The venue is the O2 Academy Oxford, an Edwardian building on Cowley Road that's been hosting live music for decades. Long before it became a music venue, it was a Cooperative party hall, known first as The Venue and later as the Zodiac. It officially launched in September 2007 with New Young Pony Club, The Magic Numbers and Young Knives, and since then it's seen the likes of Ed Sheeran, Foals, Stereophonics, Ozzy Osbourne, Babyshambles, Hozier and Royal Blood pass through. It's a well-known spot on the Cowley Road, so it's easy enough to find.

There are a few practical things to keep in mind before you head down. The night is strictly over-18s, and you'll need a student ID to get in. If you're under 25, you'll need ID to buy alcohol, so it's worth double-checking you've got yours on you before you leave the house. It's a late one, too: it starts at 11.00pm and runs until the 3.00am curfew, so you've got a full night of dancing ahead of you.

Tickets are £11.50, with handling fees added on top. Between the late start and the over-18s rule, it's a proper night out rather than a quick drop-in, and with the Christmas Special theme, it's one of those nights that works best when you're there with a group. If you're after a night of singalongs and dancing across the decades, this is the one.
