Scottish folk-rock twins Craig and Charlie Reid play the New Theatre Oxford.
The Proclaimers play the New Theatre on Sunday 1 November, starting at 7:30pm. The band is Craig and Charlie Reid, identical Scottish twins who formed more than 37 years ago. They first made their mark with the debut album This Is The Story and the Top 3 single 'Letter from America', and later became worldwide stars with 'I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)', which served as the theme for the film Benny & Joon and for the Terry Fox Run charity event, and which they later re-recorded for Comic Relief. On stage, they bring a distinctive blend of harmony folk-rock.
There's a bit of a story to how they kept their sound. At the start of their career, producers were wary of the strong accent in their songs; the story goes that the brothers refused to tone down their Scottish brogue and wrote 'Throw the R Away' as a result. It's a good example of the two things that have always defined them: the harmony singing and the accent they refused to change.
