Screening of Ari Aster's supernatural horror film 'Hereditary', starring Toni Collette, at the Ultimate Picture Palace.
Hereditary is screening at The Ultimate Picture Palace on Wednesday 21 October, starting at 8:00pm. It's the feature debut of writer-director Ari Aster, and it's a 15, so keep that in mind if you're bringing anyone along. The runtime is 127 minutes, which takes you just past 10:00pm.
The film opens on the death of the Leigh family matriarch, Ellen, and follows Annie, played by Toni Collette, as the situation turns sinister and supernatural. From there, the family begins to uncover dark secrets about their ancestry and an inherited fate. It's described as a family drama crossed with a supernatural mystery, and it keeps the focus on the family unit as things unravel.
Collette leads the cast, with Gabriel Byrne as her husband Steve and newcomer Milly Shapiro as Annie's daughter. Critics singled out Collette's performance as a major strength, and they also pointed to the work of composer Colin Stetson and cinematographer Pawel Pogorzelski. The score and the camerawork both play a big part in how the film builds its atmosphere.
