Hayseed Dixie play the O2 Academy2 in Oxford on their 25th Anniversary Tour, with support from Sweet Electric.
Hayseed Dixie play O2 Academy2 on Monday 19 October, part of their 25th Anniversary Tour. They're a Nashville band, and the night is shared with support act Sweet Electric.
They call their sound 'Rockgrass', a name that does most of the heavy lifting for you. The whole thing started on 22 September 2000, when frontman Barley Scotch (known as John Wheeler) found a wrecked car on a mountain road near Deer Lick Holler in East Tennessee, and a stack of old AC/DC vinyls. He played them on a 78rpm Victrola and decided that the 'Lost Highway of Hank Williams' and the 'Highway to Hell' of AC/DC were the same road. That was the spark.
Their debut, A Hillbilly Tribute To AC/DC, came out on 17 April 2001 and reworked ten AC/DC classics into hillbilly style; it sold more than 150,000 copies in its first year in the US alone. Since then they've released 17 studio albums of hillbilly re-workings alongside many originals, playing acoustic bluegrass instruments with a very electric rock and roll attitude. This tour marks the 25th anniversary of that start, and it comes alongside their album Rockgrass Outlaws.
