Filmed version of the musical Hadestown, shot live at the Lyric Theatre in London and featuring members of the original Broadway cast.
Hadestown: The Musical comes to Vue Oxford on Tuesday 20 October, a filmed recording of the production at the Lyric Theatre in London. It's the full show on screen, so you get the whole thing without having to make the trip to the West End.
The story is a folk-infused retelling of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, woven together with the relationship between Hades and Persephone. Eurydice, struggling with poverty, is lured to the industrial underworld of Hadestown by Hades; Orpheus, a struggling musician, ventures down below to bring her back. It's a tragic love story, and the music is right at the centre of it.
This particular production features five members of the original Broadway cast, with Reeve Carney as Orpheus, Eva Noblezada as Eurydice and AndrΓ© De Shields as Hermes. It was filmed live at the Lyric Theatre and directed by Brett Sullivan, so it's a stage performance captured for the cinema rather than a movie made for the screen. The whole thing runs 141 minutes, so it's a proper evening's entertainment.
