Screening of the Roundabout Theatre production of Noël Coward's 1925 comedy 'Fallen Angels', filmed live on stage at Broadway's Todd Haimes Theatre.
Fallen Angels screens at Phoenix Picturehouse on Thursday 22 October, a recording of the Tony Award-winning Roundabout Theatre production. It's Noël Coward's champagne-fresh comedy of bad manners, the one that shocked and delighted audiences when it premiered back in 1925.
The plot is simple enough: two upper-class wives, whose husbands are away for the day, share a few toasts to their pre-marital dalliances with the same man. He may just be on his way from France to visit, and as he gets closer, old rivalries and past scandals bubble to the surface. It's a small, sharp play about the things people say when they think no one is listening, and the things they're terrified will come back to haunt them.
The cast brings together some familiar faces from stage and screen: Rose Byrne, Kelli O'Hara, Tracee Chimo, Mark Consuelos, Christopher Fitzgerald and Aasif Mandvi. This particular production won a Tony Award, and it was filmed live on stage at Broadway's Todd Haimes Theatre, so what you're seeing on the big screen is the actual performance as it happened in New York, rather than a shot-for-shot film adaptation.
