Free screening of 'Darkly Bright', a 40-minute romantic drama set in Greece and the UK, from the Mad Mask Theatre Company.
Darkly Bright is screening at the Ultimate Picture Palace on Wednesday 28 October, starting at 7pm. It's a 40-minute romantic drama set across Greece and the UK, with the tagline 'When Romance becomes Deception' giving a fair hint at where the story goes. The film was written and directed by Doug Rollins, who worked from an original idea by Simon Image.
It comes from the Mad Mask Theatre Company, which describes its aim as reviving forgotten gems by major dramatists and contemporary writers and bringing them to the stage or the screen — a notion they trace back to Luigi Pirandello, who suggested something similar almost a century ago. The company works on a single-file, essentially non-profit basis, with revenue from some productions supporting others and its actors paid. Simon Image, the mind behind Mad Mask, also gives talks that combine literature, theatre and film with philosophy, so the company's interests run across a few different disciplines.
