Charitable concert by Ukrainian musician Sasha Begma with soprano Oksana Sliubyk, weaving stories of exile, love, homeland and loss through Chopin's music.
Sasha Begma brings a Chopin evening to the Holywell Music Room on Sunday 25 October, with soprano Oksana Sliubyk joining him as a special guest. It's presented by the Oxford Ukrainian Trust, and it's a charitable concert in support of the Oxford Ukrainian School.
Rather than a straight recital, the evening weaves stories of exile, love, homeland and loss through Chopin's music. Begma is a Ukrainian musician and actor, and he'll be the one leading the night, with Sliubyk's voice coming in on the songs. The whole thing is built around Chopin's work, so the music stays front and centre even as the stories run alongside it.
It's a Sunday night, and the Holywell Music Room is one of those spaces that suits this kind of thing — a small room on Holywell Street, not far from the city centre. The concert runs from 7:30pm to 9pm, an hour and a half in total. Tickets are £25 to £35 through Eventbrite, and the proceeds go to the Oxford Ukrainian School, so your seat does a bit more than just get you in the door.
