Screening of 'Sister Midnight', directed by Karan Kandhari and starring Radhika Apte, presented by the Chester Film Society's Film Programming Group at Phoenix Picturehouse.
Sister Midnight screens at Phoenix Picturehouse on Thursday 29 October, as part of the Chester Film Society's programme. It's a 107-minute film directed by Karan Kandhari, with Radhika Apte in the lead, alongside Ashok Pathak, Masashi Fujimoto, Daemian Greaves and Chhaya Kadam. It's certified 15.
The story follows Uma, an awkward newlywed who finds herself sharing a cramped Mumbai shack with her bumbling husband. As the nocturnal world of the city closes in around her, she's forced to confront her own strange behaviours. The Chester Film Society's Film Programming Group presents it as part of a diverse programme showcasing cinema from around the globe, so it's one of several titles they're bringing to the screen this season.
Phoenix Picturehouse is a century-old cinema in Oxford with two screens and a friendly upstairs bar. Beyond the regular bills, they run 'Phoenix Nights', a series of cult classics handpicked by the Phoenix team, and a 'Kids' Club presented with UNICEF, aimed at bringing families together through a love of cinema. It's a good spot to hang out before or after a screening, especially if you're coming with friends.

On the practical side, the screening is part of the Film Society's season: membership is £10 for the whole season, and tickets are £5 for members. That means if you're planning on seeing more than a couple of films, signing up first makes the most sense. Sister Midnight runs for 107 minutes, and the 15 certificate means it's intended for older audiences.
