Screening of the film 'Mouse', about the friendship between two high school girls in Arkansas, at Phoenix Picturehouse.
Mouse is screening at Phoenix Picturehouse on Thursday 29 October, as part of the cinema's current film programme. It's a coming-of-age story set in Arkansas in the summer of 2002, and it centres on two high schoolers, Minnie and Callie, who are best friends despite seeming like polar opposites. Minnie is the upper-middle-class, popular star of drama class; Callie is her shy plus one, happy to live in her friend's shadow while navigating life with a single mother and a foster baby in a run-down home on the wrong side of the tracks.
When their friendship suddenly ends, Callie has to discover who she is on her own. The film's description calls it a 'pure slice of Americana', and that's a fair way to sum up the kind of story it is: a small-town American summer, a friendship that falls apart, and the slow process of figuring out who you are when the person you've always leaned on is gone.
