Screening of the Spanish drama 'La Bola Negra', directed by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, within the Picturehouse film cycle.
La Bola Negra is coming to Phoenix Picturehouse on Tuesday 3 November, starting at 7:45pm. It's a Spanish drama directed by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, and it's a long one — 155 minutes, so you'll want to clear your evening for it.
The story jumps between three different eras — 1932, 1937 and 2017 — and follows three men whose lives are tied together across those generations by desire, buried family truths and a forgotten piece of history. Hanging over the whole thing is an unfinished work by Federico GarcĂa Lorca. Ambrossi and Calvo use those different time periods to ask what it means to be gay across different eras, weaving together themes of sexuality, desire, pain and inheritance.
The cast is a big one, with Lola Dueñas, Glenn Close, Penélope Cruz, Julio Torres, Lorenzo Zurzolo, Miguel Bernardeau, Antonio de la Torre, Guitarricadelafuente, Carlos González, Milo Quifes and Natalia de Molina. That's a lot of names to keep track of, but it makes sense given the film spans nearly a century and follows three different lives. It's a Spanish production, so it'll be in Spanish, and it's part of the cinema programme at Picturehouses.
