Weekly Monday folk and shanty singing session by The Auntie Shanty Crew at The Jolly Farmers pub.
Auntie Shanty returns to The Jolly Farmers on Monday 2 November, kicking off a new run of sessions in central Oxford. It's a folk shanty-singing night run by The Auntie Shanty Crew, who bill it as 'folk and shanties for the 21st century'.
If you've come across them before, you'll know the format: it's a session rather than a formal concert, and the Crew are the ones leading the singing. The '21st century' part of the description is the bit that sets it apart from a traditional folk night — it's shanties brought into the present, and the session is as much about the singing as it is about the pub around you.
This isn't a one-off, either. The winter programme of 2026 runs across five Monday nights, from 2 November through to 1 March, with the sessions always starting at 6:00pm. If you miss the first one, there are four more to follow over the coming months, so you've got plenty of chances to get involved.

It's held at The Jolly Farmers, 20 Paradise Street, OX1 1LD, right in the centre of town. The session starts at 6:00pm on Monday 2 November, and the Auntie Shanty Crew will be there leading the singing.
