Screening of the documentary 'Anyone Can Play Guitar' about Oxford's music scene, followed by a Q&A with director Jon Spira.
The Ultimate Picture Palace is showing the documentary Anyone Can Play Guitar on Saturday 24 October, with a conversation to follow. It's presented by the Museum of Oxford, and they're asking people to book in advance.
The film itself runs for an hour and forty minutes and carries a 12A certificate. It looks at the unheard stories of Oxford's music scene, narrated by Stewart Lee and built around exclusive interviews with Radiohead, Foals, Supergrass, Ride and Swervedriver. That's a fair bit of the city's guitar history in one sitting, and the voices are the bands themselves rather than a narrator filling in the gaps. If you've followed any of them, it's a chance to hear them talk about the scene they came from.
Once the credits roll, the evening continues with a conversation between director Jon Spira and BBC's Dave Gilyeat. It's a good spot to ask questions or hear more about how the film came together, and it turns a screening into a proper night out rather than just a trip to the cinema. Between the film and the talk, you're looking at a full evening's programme.
