Launch of Issue 3 of the Write Queer zine, a DIY LGBTQ+ writing project of Nottingham Central Library, with performances by contributors, nibbles and zine sales.
Write Queer are launching the third issue of their collection at Nottingham Central Library on Friday 30 October. It's a night for the city's LGBTQ+ writing community, and it's being held in the Atrium, with doors opening at 6.30pm and the main event running from 7pm to 9pm.
Richard Gidlow presents the evening, and the highlight is a series of performances by contributors to the new collection reading their own work. There'll be nibbles and time to socialise, and you can pick up a copy of the zine on the night. Any profits from those sales go straight into funding the next issue, so buying one helps keep the whole thing going.
To get some context: Write Queer is an LGBTQ+ writing group based at the library, started back in 2022. It's a supportive space for queer writers and allies to develop their creative writing, meet other writers, and share their work through both in-person and online sessions. The zine grew out of the group's desire to publish without going through a traditional house, and that DIY ethos has stuck. The first collection was crowdfunded to cover printing costs, and the second issue opened submissions to contributors from outside the UK. The launch is billed as a celebration of diversity, creativity, and local queer writers.
