Author Andrew Michael Hurley talks about his new novel 'Saltwash', with an audience Q&A and book signing.
Andrew Michael Hurley is coming to Waterstones on Thursday 29 October, half a dozen days after the current date, to mark the paperback release of his new novel, Saltwash. It's a straightforward evening: Hurley talks about the book, followed by a Q&A with the audience and a signing. If you've been following his work, it's a good chance to hear him talk through the new material in person.
Saltwash is his latest, and the night is built around its paperback release. It's a chilling novel, and the evening is timed to coincide with it hitting the shelves in that format. If you haven't read it yet, you can pick it up at the event itself.
For context, Hurley has built a reputation for folk horror and atmospheric tension. His first novel, The Loney, started as a 300-copy limited edition from Tartarus Press before being republished by John Murray; it went on to sell in twenty languages and picked up the Costa Best First Novel Award and Book of the Year at the British Book Awards. His second, Devil's Day, was named a Book of the Year in five newspapers and won the Encore Award. His fourth book, Barrowbeck, came out to critical acclaim in October 2024. Starve Acre has already made the jump to the screen, with a film adaptation starring Matt Smith and Morfydd Clark, directed by Daniel Kokotajlo, which came out in 2024 after representing Britain at the London Film Festival in 2023. And The Loney is following suit, with TV rights sold to New Regency and Jonathan van Tulleken, who worked on Shogun, on board to direct. Hurley lives in Lancashire with his family.
