One-night screening of the 1990 monster movie 'Tremors' at the Savoy Cinema on Derby Road.
Tremors is coming to the Savoy Cinema on Monday 26 October, a one-night screening of the 1990 monster movie. It's being brought back to the big screen to celebrate the film's enduring appeal, so if you've only ever seen it on a small screen, this is your chance to see it as it was meant to be watched.
The story is set in Perfection, Nevada — a town with a population of 16 — and follows handymen Val (Kevin Bacon) and Earl (Fred Ward). They discover their community is under siege by giant subterranean killer worms, and they end up teaming up with an eccentric survivalist couple to fight back. It's a creature feature that works as well as a comedy, with Bacon and Ward playing off each other across the whole thing.
Over the years it's come to be regarded as monster movie perfection and one of the great B movies of the 1990s. A good part of that comes from the practical effects, which were handled by the same team behind Starship Troopers and Alien 3. Seeing those effects on a cinema screen rather than a TV makes a real difference, especially when the worms are doing their best work.
