A celebration of the legendary outlaw Robin Hood across Nottingham, featuring storytelling, a digital longbow competition, and a town tour.
Robin Hood Day falls on Thursday 29 October, and across Nottingham, the city celebrates its most famous outlaw in the county that gave him life. It's not a single event in one place; it's a day that spreads across the city and out into the countryside, so you can spend it following the legend from the centre out to the forest.
Nottingham Castle is a good starting point. They're running Robin Hood Adventures, a storytelling experience set in Sherwood Forest, alongside a digital longbow competition for anyone who wants to test their aim. From there, you can head to Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, England's oldest inn, which dates back to 1189 and is said to have been a pit stop for crusader knights and outlaws. If you're staying in the city, the Robin Hood Town Tour takes you through the National Justice Museum to see the oubliette cell where the Sheriff imprisoned him, and on to the Robin of Locksley escape room.
When you're ready to get out of town, Sherwood Forest is where the legend really lives. The thousand-year-old Major Oak still stands there, and St Mary's Church in Edwinstowe is where Robin Hood is said to have wed Maid Marian, with a statue of the couple on the High Street. It's a fair bit of ground to cover, so you can pick the bits that interest you mostβthe storytelling and archery at the castle, the old pub, the museum's cell, or the forest itself.
